Derwent Botanical Test

This isn’t necessarily an art project in the sense of the meaning I have added other pieces of art to this page, however I thought I should add it here and allow viewers to sort through the images and determine for themselves which image they prefer.

I am frequently ask which pencil is better than the other and I love answering these types of questions, it allows me the ability to start a conversation about pencils, which I love. As a result I decided to start an entirely new video series completely dedicated to comparing art supplies.

In this test I took four of Derwent’s top line pencils, the Lightfast, Procolour, Artists and Coloursoft, I used the pencils on exactly the same botanical image on some high quality Strathmore 500 Series Bristol Plate paper. I also tried to use exactly the same colors from each set, however this wasn’t always possible mainly due to the fact with the Coloursoft, Artists and Procolour I used the 72 set and the Lightfast largest set is 36, so the Lightfast palette was somewhat limited in comparison.

I have completed full and detailed reviews of each pencil in this test so if you can check out the relevant reviews by following the appropriate links. Derwent Lightfast, Derwent Artists, Derwent Coloursoft and Derwent Procolour.
