Drawing BB8 From Star Wars With COPIC and Colored Pencils

I completed a drawing of BB8 from Star Wars about three or four years ago, I had only been drawing two years and had a large collection of Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and Spectrum Noir Colored Pencils, they were one of the first companies to ever send me products to review. I wanted to draw something really good with the markers and so I decided to draw BB8, which you will be able to see the original drawing at the bottom of the post.

After years of drawing and testing other products, I wanted to see if I could draw the same BB8 from Star Wars and see what the improvement was like if any. To be honest with you I was so happy with the completed drawing, plus I had so much fun drawing it. It was just one of those drawings that you can feel everything going right along the way, don’t get me wrong, I am sure there are one or two people who will be able to find fault with it, which I would truly love to know because that is how we all grow, if we never listen to others I think, at least in my case, I would stagnate.

For this drawing I used COPIC markers along with Faber Castell Polychromos Colored Pencils and the surface I used was the Strathmore 500 Series Bristol Plate 100% Cotton paper. I find the 500 Series from Strathmore, especially the Bristol Plate, to be the perfect surface for Colored Pencil and Markers. The paper allows the marker to layer without bleeding and feathering all over the place, but then when it comes to applying the colored pencil for detail, the 100% cotton content allows for plenty of layers and seamless blending.

The image on the top is my most recent drawing of BB8 and the image below is my first attempt at drawing BB8 about 3 or 4 years ago. I can definitely see an improvement but what matters most of all to me is that I really like both drawings. Even the older drawing of BB8, I had only started drawing about a year and a half or two years before I completed the first drawing; which at the time I was over the moon with. You can check out my speed drawing of the most recent BB8 drawing by following the link.
