Caran d’Ache Luminance Portraiture 20 Set

A while back I reviewed the brand new Caran d’Ache Luminance Portraiture 20 Set and the other 4 extra Luminance pencils added to the Luminance range. Unfortunately I didn't;t supply any artwork to help demonstrate the pencils at the time, simply because I wanted to get the review out as soon as I possibly could.

I have now been able to complete a drawing using the new Luminance Portrait colored pencils, however in this drawing I have also used the Caran d’Ache Grafwood Graphite Pencils but there is also quite a significant meaning behind the drawing.

UFC Kahbib Nurmagomedov

When I was able bodied and serving in the Army, I used to be a Kick Boxer and Muay Thai Fighter, not an expert but loved the sport regardless. As a result I love watching Mixed Martial Arts and the UFC is one place I love to watch.

One of the fighters in the UFC is Khabib Nurmagomedov who is from Dagestan and he is the person I have drawn in color. The individual that I have drawn with the Caran d’Ache Grafwood pencils is Khabib’s Father and trainer, however, he unfortunately passed away very recently, hence the reason I have made a contrast between the two people.

As someone who’s Father is currently battling Cancer I can’t imagine losing my Dad and so my heart goes out to Khabib and his family. Khabibs Father didn’t just train him though, he created lots of training centres all over Russia to help get young kids off the streets and into a structured discipline.

The entire drawing was completed on my favourite Strathmore 500 Series Bristol Plate paper, I absolutely love using this 100% Cotton paper for any art pieces that I hope to come out well and I am incredibly happy with the final result on this piece, especially as I struggle quite a bit with portraits.

I have also added a speed drawing of this piece over on The Art Gear Guide YouTube Channel if you are interested in watching this piece come to live in 5 minutes. Thank you all so much for your amazing support and wonderful messages.
