Staedtler Pastel Pencils Botanical Art Demonstration

The artwork in this post was created in order to help demonstrate the Staedtler Pastel Pencils that I have just reviewed. This was only a 12 set of Pastel Pencils from Staedtler, which forced me to dig deep into the dark recesses of my mind to find any Colour Theory info I could find. However, if you would like to know more about the Staedtler Pastel Pencils you can click on the links, which will take you directly to the YouTube video review or alternatively if you prefer to read about art supplies, you can also check out my written review.

For this particular piece of botanical artwork that I created using the Staedtler Pastel Pencils, I used a sheet of white Clairefontaine Pastelmat. There are of course a few different surfaces you can use for pastels, but for me personally Pastelmat is my favourite, Pastelmat is a thicker surface with good texture to the surface gripping hold of that pastel dust.

Alternatives such as Ingres Pastel Paper or even Valour, are just too thin for my liking and with the Ingres, I feel it doesn’t allow for enough layers. Don’t get me wrong, there are some absolutely amazing pastel artists that use Ingres and Valour to mesmerising effect, artists such as Colin Bradly and Emma Colbert.
